Applying for jobs is soul crushing. Something as simple as sharing your hiring process and stages can break down feelings of frustration and uncertainty from candidates who could be perfect for your role.

Benefits of sharing the process up front

  • Sharing your application process will save you time. If the process feels too long for the candidates, who don't know what to expect, they’ll self-select out of applying. Otherwise, you’ll be 1-2 interviews in, and then the candidate could drop out, which will waste your (and their) time.

  • By sharing your application process ahead of time, it indicates to the candidate that you care about the candidate experience and have a well structured recruitment process. This means they’re more likely to apply.

  • The best candidates are interviewing with multiple companies. If you can highlight how efficient your hiring process is, they’ll be more likely to apply.

What to share

But it's all about striking a balance. You don't want to be so high level that you're unclear or unrealistic. And you don't want to be so thorough that you potentially put people off!

You don’t have to share every single touchpoint, but adding a few things in the job card can be helpful:

  • What are the key stages once you apply? Ideally your process is 3-5 steps.

  • Who could they be meeting or interacting with? This can help them understand different stakeholders they’d liaise with in the role, and can help them prepare questions in advance.

  • How long are the different stages and what is involved? If there are interviews or tasks, highlight what you’re trying to assess in them and the estimated time commitment so that it’s clear what the value is in exchange for their time.

  • As you go through the process, share what’s next and what you’re looking for so that candidates can prepare thoughtfully about being their best selves, rather than prepare for anything.

Where to add this

To add your application process, go to the "Jobs" section in your account, click "Edit," then scroll to the bottom where you’ll be able to add the application process. Don’t forget to click “Publish changes”.
